StampWorks is a stamp inventory and album page generation program that was created to ease the burden of generating album pages. The author has constructed various inventory databases since 1984 on a Commodore 64 and began making his own album pages in 1994 on a MacIntosh. The process quickly became tedious, and it became obvious that the addition of stamp sizes to the database would facilitate the automatic generation of album pages. Album page generation included in this version is intended for those collectors that have either grown tired of buying supplements or who have many classic stamps that are not well represented in their pre-printed album pages. Once an entire country has been entered into the database, it can take as little as 17 seconds to generate a 150 page album.
The inventory items have been selected with the following criteria:
- The author has used or wanted these fields while creating inventory databases over the course of the last decade.
- The fields are in the WPID definition from the Computers in Philately Study Group of the APS.
- Conversations with other stamp collectors. There is a healthy list of additional items from those conversations that will be included in subsequent versions. If you have a special request, please send it to the author with an explanation of how you would use it.
StampWorks was designed for a 14 inch monitor with 800x600 resolution. It will function at 640x480 resolution, but it will be awkward to use. StampWorks has been tested on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, and Windows XP. Since StampWorks uses standard Microsoft components, it will most like execute well on Windows 2000 and ME as well, but has not be tested on those platforms.
The help system will start in a new window and uses frames, so you must use a frames capable browser such as IE, Netscape, or Mozilla.
